Somewhere good to write.

Florilegium is a word processor for Windows. It works as you'd expect a word processor to work but looks like a well-made book.

Its wide margins hold your notes, or entries from a commonplace book of clippings you’ve gathered.

Get Florilegium Free for seven days, then £35 once, with 'lifetime' updates. No subscription. Works on Windows 10 and 11.

Four papers to choose from.

Paper, ink and rules are chosen to go well together. These purposeful choices are curated rather than endlessly customisable. Choose one now, and see what this page looks like laid on it.

Cotton is bright, with a fine grain.

Writingthe page

It works like Word. It reads like a book.

Florilegium works in the way that you would expect a word processor to, only in a weighty typeface. While you write, nothing else is on screen; pause, and the bar of tools comes back.

From The Ghosts of Dunmail Raise

The man was dressed in armour, with a spear at his side, and he had a gash of gangrenous mist across his face. He could see things that I couldn’t, I have no doubt of that. But he saw less as well. The dead always see less than the living.

The marginsnotes, labels†

Notes stay beside their words.

Write in the margin beside any phrase. Your note stays level with it however much the writing around it changes. Label a paragraph to find your way round a long piece.

The visionpride, stars*

From The Ghosts of Dunmail Raise

I saw the heavens spread out in perfect reverse replica and in the centre of the vision were seven stars that shone brighter than the rest, and one of the seven surpassed even the others. The crown of King Dunmail, hung in the deep heavens of that reflected sky, and the ghost wanted me to retrieve it.

I stood crowned with the stars of heaven, and it seemed good to me.

And every time I stop at that cairn, I listen to the dumb sheep bleating, and, taking a deep breath of mountain air, I lift my eyes to the hills, for now we have something to talk about.

Commonplace bookgather, use✓

Keep what you read, and then find it again when you write.

Writers have long kept commonplace books, copying out the lines worth keeping under subjects of their own. Florilegium acts as your commonplace book.

  • Clip any words you can select on your computer: a web page, an email, a PDF, your own writing..
  • Bring in every highlight from your Kindle, with its book, author and page.
  • File clippings under subjects of your choosing, and find any of them quickly.
  • Place them beside the line you’re writing, move them into your writing, or send them into any other program.

1. Gather as you read

Select any words, press Clip and choose a subject. Florilegium keeps them, with their source.

From The Ghosts of Dunmail Raise

The man looked beneath me, as if my world was too high for him to meet eye-to-eye. He could see things that I couldn’t, I have no doubt of that. But he saw less as well. The dead always see less than the living.

Select any words to clip them into the book.

2. Use as you write

Open your book beside any line, search it, and place a passage in the margin. Here, the line just gathered is added beside a poem.

The librarykept safe?

Every piece is kept safe.

Each piece begins dated like a letter, with the place you wrote it. Gather your pieces into collections and search everything you’ve written.

Florilegium keeps each day’s draft as a backup without being asked, so you can go back to last Tuesday's version. It also automatically backs everything up once a week, as plain text that any program can open.

Copiesprint, PDF, Word!

Print it to read from.

Print, or save as PDF or Word, in two styles: a plain copy set like the page, and a larger reading copy for reading aloud.
